The core, the Origin

In Shinto, the spiritual and mythical heart of Japan, water holds a special place. It serves not only as a means of purification, but its life-giving nature is acknowledged in offerings to the Kami, the spiritual deities. Its significance is already visible in shrines where you must wash your hands and mouth at a washbasin before entering.

In the Kojiki, the oldest chronicle regarding the origin of the imperial house and the world of gods in Japan, it is said that the first gods grew from water, like blades of grass, and that the first land was raised from the primordial sea. The sun goddess and her siblings were born from drops of water that fell from the eyes, nose, and mouth of their father, Iznagi. And the imperial gods of Japan were formed from the water that flowed from the mouth of the sun goddess over the well in the center of the sky.

The divine women represent, in all their personalities, the sacred Shinto spirituality, the natural energy or life force, and their entity on land or in the sea. Feminine, soft/strong shells and mother-of-pearl express their origin, the feminine energy and divine consciousness.
