Welcome to Salt, a visual meditation on the elemental spirit of the sea and its ancient role as a vessel for transformation, purity, and imagination. Inspired by ancient myths on sea life and sea gods worldwide.
For millennia the sea has been a sacred place where myth and spirit meet in the new energy of rebirth. From the divine waters surrounding the Greek island of Delos (believed to be the birthplace of Apollo and Artemis). It was both offering and a place of oracle, a sacred dust of the sea, reigned by the Nereids, sea nymphs, deeply associated with the element of water. They were the personified female spirits of the sea, worshipped as the divinities of the sea, believed to preserve the voice of the old seagods whispered on the waves. Up to the serene tides of the Pacific shores of Japan near the Grand Shrine of Ise, where Kami nymph's with Shinto rituals honour the ocean’s. These sacred coastlines still carry the breath of the divine still living vidid in today's cultures.
Salt is a visual ode to peace and reflection both as symbol and source of birth. Draped in translucent silks and crowned with sea-formed coronets, the Nereids & Kami here are not merely women, they are personifications of the ocean’s sacred breath. Salt is a mercury to the spirit, a channel between earthly matter and ethereal vision. Shells, fish, pearls, starfish and sea foam, natural emblems of transformation, femininity and peace. Silk and translucence, the soft veils of tranquillity. Echoing tides and the quiet stillness of the deep water world.
Each portrait within this portfolio embodies serenity, grace and the connection to something ancient. The Nereids & Kami I wrapped and crowned in oceanic symbolism, suspended in a realm between memory and myth.
In this series, the sea is their cathedral, Salt their sacred thread and every image is a meditation on return
To water ~ To stillness ~ To source
